Coalition Building

We work with government officials, community groups, and other political organizations to advance reproductive rights and health. In our political work, we collaborate with other organizations to lobby for pro-choice legislation and policies as well as to elect pro-choice candidates. In our reproductive health equity efforts, we engage in collective initiatives to improve access to reproductive and sexual health information and services – including emergency contraception and family planning – to stand up for women’s health needs in state and national health care reform, and to promote health equity across the Commonwealth.

Coalition for Choice

Along with about a dozen other statewide grassroots organizations, we work to file and pass pro-choice legislation and counter anti-choice initiatives. We chair the Coalition for Choice every other year, sharing the leadership with one other colleague organization, and play a lead role in determining the pro-choice legislative agenda.

Disparities Action Network (DAN)

The Disparities Action Network (DAN) is a statewide coalition of more than 65 organizations working to reduce racial and ethnic health disparities. NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts is an active member of the DAN, which seeks to educate the public and policymakers about health disparities and develop, promote, and implement means of addressing them.

Mass Alliance

We play a key role in the Mass Alliance, serving on the board with several dozen other issue- and constituency-based organizations working for the betterment of women, families, and communities in the Commonwealth. The Mass Alliance endorses progressive candidates and helps the progressive community organize itself and secure electoral and policy victories.

Massachusetts Emergency Contraception (EC) Network

We coordinated the Massachusetts Emergency Contraception Network for more than five years, turning it into a national model for increasing access to emergency contraception. The network brought together medical providers, pharmacists, community organizations, and government agencies to work on public education and advocacy aimed at increasing access to emergency contraception and reducing unwanted pregnancy. Today, this group remains a virtual network that continues to keep stakeholders up to date on important developments and to share resources on emergency contraception.

Prevention First Coalition

Originally formed to ensure that the Commonwealth rejects federal abstinence-only-until-marriage funding, the Prevention First Coalition also concentrates on advocating for family planning and teen pregnancy prevention programs in the state. We are considering expanding our agenda to advocate for comprehensive sex education as well.

Reproductive Empowerment and Decision Making for Young Adults (REaDY)

The REaDY initiative is a collaborative effort led by NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, Ibis Reproductive Health, and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to ensure that the implementation of state and national health reform addresses the reproductive needs of young adults between 18 and 26. On the national level, this is the age group most likely to be un- or underinsured and to experience unwanted pregnancy. The initiative began with a yearlong research phase to identify barriers to family planning services and to inform development of educational and policy solutions. Sexual Health Network for Boston Youth

The Sexual Health Network is a coalition led by NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, the Boston Public Health Commission, the AIDS Action Committee, and the Massachusetts Alliance on Teen Pregnancy. Together with dozens of organizations from health care, education, youth development, and public health sectors, we work to promote sexual education and services for Boston youth.
