Women need abortions later in pregnancy for many reasons. Currently, women who are more than 23 weeks pregnant cannot get an abortion in Massachusetts unless her life is at risk or she has a lethal fetal anomaly (i.e., the fetus has a major medical problem that will not allow it to survive after birth).  Because each state has different laws, women who can travel can find later abortion services in other states.
