Most abortions are done at clinics or doctors’ offices.1 Trained doctors and nurses provide the services. They use special equipment and supplies to make sure the procedure is safe. The clinics and doctors’ offices in Massachusetts that do abortions are listed here.

A list of things to think about and questions to ask when choosing a clinic or doctor’s office is here.

Sometimes an abortion needs to be done in a hospital. Hospitals have special staff, equipment and supplies that clinics and doctors’ offices don’t have. An abortion needs to be done in a hospital if:

  • the pregnancy is too many weeks along for the clinic or office to handle it

  • the pregnancy is more than 18 weeks along and you will need MassHealth (Medicaid) to pay for it. (Before 18 weeks, MassHealth will pay for abortions in clinics.)

  • the woman has certain medical problems in addition to being pregnant.
