Fall 2009 - Lobby Day Gives Voice to Choice
NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts and the Coalition for Choice invite you to join us at our 2009 Lobby Day!Lobby Day is an excellent opportunity for pro-choice constituents from across the state to gather at the State House, hear from exciting speakers, and meet with their legislators about our priority bills. Despite the Commonwealth’s commitment to promoting public health and improving access to edical care, Massachusetts is one of only four states in the nation where a pre-Roe v. Wade law banning all abortions has not yet been enjoined by a court or repealed by the legislature. A second arcane, onerous provision would effectively ban most abortions after the twelfth week of pregnancy, while language outlawing birth control for unmarried couples remains on the books. All three of these archaic statutes are unconstitutional and any attempt to enforce them would jeopardize women’s health and well-being. An Act Relative to Updating the Public Health Laws would repeal these statutes. We will train you with all of the basics to lobby your legislators effectively – and give you the tools to do so. During this legislative session, we have a great opportunity to pass some important legislation - but we need your help!
Please save the date: Tuesday, October 6, 2009 10am - Noon Great Hall in the Massachusetts State House
