NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts: New Name, Renewed Comitment to Mobilize Pro-Choice Majority

Modified: 11/03/2003

Synopsis: The state’s leading grassroots political organization has a new name: NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts.

Boston, MA – NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, the state’s leading grassroots political organization, is pleased to announce its new name and its plans to mobilize thousands of pro-choice supporters across the Commonwealth to participate in a historic March on Washington, D.C. to take place on April 25, 2004.

“This new name, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, reflects the embattled rights we’re working to protect,” said Melissa Kogut, Executive Director. “This change comes at a critical time for the reproductive rights movement as we face grave threats to women’s privacy and their constitutional right to choose.”

Formerly known as Mass NARAL, the organization is the state affiliate of national NARAL Pro-Choice America located in Washington, D.C.

In the months ahead, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts will undertake a massive grassroots mobilization to mobilize thousands of people from Massachusetts to travel to Washington DC for the historic pro-choice march on April 25, 2004.

“With an anti-choice President and Congress, our best hope to protect reproductive freedom is to mobilize the thousands of pro-choice people in Massachusetts who believe that women – not the government – should be able to make deeply private decisions about their reproductive lives,” said Kogut. “By working in communities across the state, we’ll protect this fundamental freedom the same way we won it – one neighborhood and one person at a time.”

In the coming days, Melissa Kogut will speak out at events to raise awareness about what is at stake for reproductive freedom for women across the country and in Massachusetts and about the need to ensure that we send the largest delegation ever from Massachusetts to march for our civil rights. She will also speak at a press conference featuring national representatives from the March for Choice bus tour.
