NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts Releases The Pro-Choice Voters’ Guide; Mobilizes Members to Get Active in Target Races
Boston, MA – NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, the state’s leading advocate for women’s rights to privacy and reproductive choice, has released The Pro-Choice Voters’ Guide, the most comprehensive guide of its kind in the Commonwealth featuring endorsements and choice ratings on candidates in the state’s 200 legislative races.
The Pro-Choice Voters’ Guide is available on-line at www.prochoicemassvotes.org.
“This is the most important election for women’s reproductive freedom in 30 years. Here in Massachusetts, with many legislative races being decided by a few hundred ballots, pro-choice voters can make the difference between a victory or a loss for a pro-choice candidate,” said Melissa Kogut, Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts. “With a net gain of just five pro-choice seats, the Massachusetts House of Representatives will have a pro-choice majority for the very first time. A pro-choice majority would mean real progress for women’s reproductive health in the Commonwealth.”
The 2004 NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts Pro-Choice Voters’ Guide is being sent via postal and electronic mail to nearly 20,000 pro-choice supporters across the state before the November 2 general election. As the state’s leading advocate for reproductive freedom, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts seeks to educate voters about candidates’ positions on choice and encourage them to vote on election day.
The NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts Political Action Committee invited candidates in state legislative races to complete questionnaires gauging positions on issues ranging from access to Emergency Contraception (EC) to restrictions on accessible abortion services. The PAC issued endorsements and candidate ratings based upon evaluation of questionnaires or voting histories on past choice issues such as the Contraceptives Coverage Bill (2002) and the Buffer Zone Bill (2000).
