Private Hospitals exempt from EC law
“What’s lost in the debate about access to EC at private hospitals are the women behind the sound bites – women who have been raped and traumatized and must have access to EC to prevent a pregnancy that may result from an assault. It’s truly regrettable that the Romney administration is putting the so-called “moral principles” of hospitals above the emotional and medical needs of women who have been raped.
Women don’t choose where they’re victimized and are often not able to choose the hospital where they’re treated. Should women be denied the care they need because of the so-called moral objections of an institution? Together with other women’s and public health advocates, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts intends to pursue every available avenue to ensure that the Legislature’s intent as embodied in the EC law is carried out,” said Melissa Kogut, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts.
