Boston, MA – NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, the state's leading advocate for privacy and a woman's right to choose, announced today that Andrea Miller – a longtime reproductive rights and women’s health activist – will join the organization as Executive Director. Miller assumes the leadership in a critical election year, when NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts is poised to build on its past victories to benefit women and families throughout the Commonwealth.
"We have the power to ensure that every woman has the right and ability to make personal, private decisions about her reproductive health," Miller said. "Working with pro-choice political leaders and committed members across the state, we have the opportunity to make Massachusetts a model for the nation – a place where childbearing choices are respected and protected."
Happy Green, Chair of the NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts Board of Directors, praised Miller’s appointment. "Andrea is a seasoned advocate and superb communicator with a lifetime commitment to reproductive rights and political engagement," she said. "We are very excited that she will help lead the organization as we work to elect more pro-choice candidates and improve access to reproductive health care. Under her direction, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts will energize and expand its membership, uniting a new generation around reproductive choice."
Andrea Miller has a long history as a pro-choice advocate, serving in the leadership of and as consultant to a host of national, regional, and local reproductive rights and health organizations for nearly twenty years. Before relocating to Boston to attend Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, Miller was a principal at Public Interest Media Group, a national communications and public affairs firm based in New York City. She was a key player in devising and implementing the successful strategy to gain over-the-counter access to Plan B, the emergency contraceptive pill. She also helped to launch a national campaign to counter the troubling trend of politics trumping science in the Bush Administration. Before joining PIMG, Andrea helped to found the Center for Reproductive Rights and was the organization’s communications director for its first five years. She started her professional career at the ACLU Reproductive Freedom Project.
Ms. Miller will assume her role as Executive Director on February 25.
