NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts Applauds Endorsed Candidates on Key Primary Wins
Connolly and Matias Score Upsets to Unseat Incumbents with Bad Records on Choice
BOSTON, MA – Christian Miron, deputy director of NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, congratulated Mike Connolly and Juana Matias on their respective upset wins for State Representative in the September 8th primary.
"We congratulate Mike Connolly and Juana Matias for running exceptional grassroots campaigns,” said Miron. "Mike Connolly’s victory over a 24-year incumbent mixed choice Democrat, and Juana Matias’ victory over an incumbent anti-choice Democrat is a clear signal that when given the opportunity, voters will support candidates who will be real leaders in the fight to ensure that all women in the Commonwealth have access to the full range of reproductive health care options, including abortion.”
NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts PAC endorsed Mike Connolly and Juana Matias for State Representative. NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts members and volunteers knocked on over 3,000 doors and made hundreds of phone calls in support of Connolly and Matias.
"On Thursday, voters sent the powerful message that it doesn’t matter if you’re an incumbent, it doesn’t matter what your party affiliation is—what matters to voters is sending genuine pro-choice leaders to Beacon Hill in order to ensure that Massachusetts is able to advance policies to support reproductive freedom. NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts looks forward to working with Mike Connolly and Juana Matias in the State House to promote a proactive pro-choice agenda,” said Miron.
Also earning wins in contested races for last week’s election were the following NARAL-endorsed candidates: Pat Jehlen in Second Middlesex, Moses Dixon in 17th Worcester, Natalie Higgins in 4th Worcester, Jen Migliore in 9th Essex, and Matt Patrick in 3rd Barnstable.
