Breaking News: Healthcare Bill and Trump EO Throw Bay Staters Under the Bus

Massachusetts Must Pass ACCESS Bill to Protect Contraceptive Coverage
Boston, MA - Today, President Trump and House Republicans advanced two federal measures that attack access to basic reproductive healthcare: an executive order that will begin rolling back the Affordable Care Act's contraceptive coverage policy, and legislation to take healthcare coverage from millions of Americans, defund Planned Parenthood, and coerce insurers into dropping coverage of abortion care. NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts Executive Director Rebecca Hart Holder released the following statement in response:

"President Trump and his anti-choice allies in Congress have shown once again their total disregard for the realities of reproductive health care and for the safety and livelihoods of women, families, and all Bay Staters. Contrary to the claims of President Trump and his cronies in Congress, there is nothing "pro-life” about decreasing access to life-saving healthcare; nor is it "pro-family” to deny anyone the birth control that allows them to plan and provide for their families. Bay Staters deserve better.

"That’s why it is more imperative than ever for Massachusetts to hold the line on reproductive freedom and protect Bay Staters’ access to reproductive health care. In the wake of this devastating news, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts will continue to mobilize our 10,000 member activists to advocate for the ACCESS (Advancing Contraceptive Coverage and Economic Security in our State) Bill—critical legislation that will establish copay-free contraceptive coverage in our Commonwealth, no matter what happens to the Affordable Care Act and the contraceptive coverage it promises.

"Today, the urgency of the ACCESS Bill increased tenfold. Worse still, the Trump administration will only continue to roll back basic reproductive freedoms. Massachusetts lawmakers must listen to their constituents and pass the ACCESS Bill without delay.”
